LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior guard Jimmy Curran and sophomore guard Kyle Enoch scored 16 points apiece, leading the Lebanon Valley College men’s basketball team to a 57-52 non-conference win over Franklin & Marshall Tuesday evening at the Mayser Center.
Trailing 24-23 at the half, Lebanon Valley (2-1) held Franklin & Marshall (1-2) to five field goals in the second stanza, as the Diplomats shot 22.7% over the final 20 minutes.
Bryan Teschke led F&M with 14 points while Evan Hamme had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
In an extremely close game, neither team led by more than six the entire night. The contest featured five ties and nine lead changes.
The visiting team has now won the last four meetings between LVC and F&M, dating back to the 2003-04 season.
Franklin & Marshall never trailed in the first half after scoring the game’s first four points. The Dutchmen kept the lead manageable, however, keeping within six points for the opening period’s entirety. Enoch hit one of his career-high four three-pointers with 4:51 left, tying the game at 16. Teschke answered for the Diplomats with a three-pointer of his own, but sophomore guard Dan Hodge pulled the Dutchmen even (19-19) with his only trey of the night with 3:55 on the clock.
F&M led by five with 2:57 left in the first half before the Dutchmen outscored the Dips 4-0 the rest of the way to make it a 24-23 game at the break. Senior forward Brian Wolensky hit a lay-up with 1:30 left before Curran knocked down a jumper with 15 ticks showing.
Lebanon Valley took its first lead of the night (26-25) on an Enoch three-ball 30 seconds into the second half. After three ties and three lead changes, the Dutchmen tightened up defensively and held the Diplomats scoreless for a 4:27 stretch midway through the half. Hodge hit a pair of free throws with 10:43 remaining, making it 38-36 and giving LVC the lead for good.
The Diplomats trailed by as much as five but pulled to within one (50-49) on an Evan Hamme lay-up with 2:28 left. However, LVC scored the next six points, as a pair of Enoch lay-ups sandwiched around a Curran three-pointer made it 56-49 with 16 seconds left.
Logan Outerbridge pulled the Dips to within four (56-52) with a three-pointer with seven seconds to go, but it was too little too late. Enoch canned a foul shot with four ticks showing, and Outerbridge missed a three-pointer just before the buzzer.
Lebanon Valley shot 10-for-12 at the free-throw line.
The Dutchmen pick up their schedule on Sunday, when they host Ursinus College at 3 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
