ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men’s and women’s swimming teams competed against Albright College and Cabrini College in a double-dual meet at the LVC Swimming Pool.
The men’s team defeated Cabrini 77-12 but lost to 54-40 to Albright. The women’s squad lost to both Albright (62-32) and Cabrini (55-39).
For the men’s team, sophomore Kevin Carney led the way with a pair of victories. Carney notched first-place finishes in the 800-meter freestyle (9:16.69) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:05.04) while resetting his own school record in the 800 for the second week in a row. He was also second in the 200-meter IM in a MAC-qualifying time of 2:25.14.
Also finishing first was freshman Andy Goetz, who won the 400-meter freestyle in 4:31.98, an MAC Championships-qualifying time.
Senior Matt Woods took second and qualified for the MAC Championships in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:17.97). He was also second in the 100-meter butterfly (1:05.93) and the 200-meter freestyle (2:17.62).
For the women’s team, freshman Lisa Niethamer qualified for MACs in the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.47) as did sophomore Lauren Horst in the 100-meter backstroke (1:18.19). Sophomore Allison Sweigart qualified in the 100-meter butterfly (1:13.96) and the 50-meter freestyle (28.96 seconds).
Lebanon Valley’s men’s and women’s teams return to action on Saturday, when they visit the University of Scranton for a dual meet starting at 2 p.m.
