Sabas Inches Closer to Record in Women’s Tennis Win

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Junior Leslie Sabas moved into second on Lebanon Valley’s career singles wins list as the Flying Dutchwomen defeated host King’s College 7-2 in a non-conference match on Sunday.

With her 6-1, 6-1 win over Kristen Hunter, Sabas earned her 28th career singles victory, one more than the career totals of Kristen Barone ’04 and Chris Jessen ’05. Sabas is now four wins shy of the Lebanon Valley record held by Kelly Stauffer ’04.

Lebanon Valley (8-5) started the match by winning two of three doubles contests. Junior Nicole Interdonato and sophomore Jan White won at No. 2 while senior Angela Esh and freshman Caitlin Bedford were victorious at No. 3.
 
The Dutchwomen added five singles wins to close out the match. With a win at the No. 2 position, freshman Sarah Grodzinski pushed her season record to 11-2 and tied the school record for singles wins in a season by a freshman held by Barone, Stauffer, Sophia Kwon ’05, and sophomore Charissa Nordall.

Also winning were sophomore Kelly Moll at No. 3, Nordall at No. 4, and White at No. 6. Nordall is now 10-2 on the season while White improved to 8-1.

Lebanon Valley plays another non-conference match on Thursday, when it hosts Neumann College at 3:30 p.m.
