ANNVILLE, Pa. – Messiah College won two of three doubles matches, then claimed Nos. 1-3 singles contests as the Falcons slipped by Lebanon Valley 5-4 in a grueling Commonwealth Conference women’s tennis match that lasted four-and-a-half hours Saturday afternoon at the LVC Tennis Courts.
In doubles play, sophomores Charissa Nordall and Jan White teamed up to win at No. 3, winning the only doubles match for Lebanon Valley (7-5, 2-4 CC).
Nordall and White were also victorious in singles action, with Nordall winning at No. 4 and White prevailing at No. 6. Nordall pushed her season record to 9-2 with the win while White improved to 7-1.
Freshman Nicole Chwastiak also claimed a singles victory, winning at No. 5.
Four of the five matches Lebanon Valley lost were extremely close. The Falcons (10-2, 4-2 CC) won 9-7 and 8-6 in the two doubles events, and two of their three singles wins required a third set.
The Dutchwomen return to the court on Sunday, as they visit King’s College at 1 p.m. for a non-conference match.
