Men’s Soccer Rallies to Beat Albright in Season Finale

Box Score

READING, Pa. – Sophomore Rich Chesney scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, as Lebanon Valley rallied from a 2-1 second-half deficit to defeat host Albright College 3-2 in a Commonwealth Conference match Saturday afternoon.

The match marked the season finale for Lebanon Valley, which completes the season with a record of 8-10 (3-4 CC).

Albright (8-8-2, 2-4-1 CC) took a 1-0 lead when Tom Talarico scored in the ninth minute. It appeared as if that’s how the score would remain heading into halftime before freshman Justin Hutchinson converted a feed from junior Zack Barkus 48 seconds before intermission for his third goal of the season.

The Lions were flagged with a red card five minutes into the second half, and Talarico put Albright back on top when he scored in the 55th minute with his team playing a man down. But Hutchinson tied it up four minutes later with his second goal of the game. Chesney then scored the game-winner off an pass from senior Adam Burns.

Junior John Mentzer, sophomore Tim Mehl, and sophomore Andrew Raudensky all played 30 minutes in goal for the Dutchmen. Mentzer started before giving way to Mehl. Raudensky finished up the last 30 minutes, shutting out the Lions to earn his first collegiate victory.
