ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Kevin Carney won three events and senior Hannah Plimpton captured two as the Lebanon Valley College men’s and women’s swimming teams opened their 2006-07 season with victories over King’s College Saturday afternoon at the LVC Swimming Pool.
Lebanon Valley’s men’s team won 128-67 while the women’s squad was a 142-52 winner.
Carney finished first in the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.71), the 400-meter freestyle (4:41.60), and the 800-meter freestyle (9:21.75). He bettered his own school record in the 800, lowering the standard by 10 seconds.
Also winning individual events for the men’s team were sophomore Scott Beesley (100-meter breaststroke, 1:22.52), freshman J.T. Grob (50-meter freestyle, 25.86 seconds), sophomore Jeff Dresely (200-meter IM, 2:55.48), and freshman Johnny Schoenberger (100-meter freestyle, 58.71 seconds).
The men’s team also won both relays. In the 200-meter freestyle, sophomore David Gardner, junior Tristan Bostock, Grob, and senior Matt Woods teamed up for a winning time of 1:48.70 while the 200-meter medley relay team of junior Daniel Wolford, Beesley, Grob, and Gardner touched the wall in 2:04.12.
On the women’s side, Plimpton won both the 100-meter breaststroke (1:23.95) and the 200-meter IM (2:49.32).
Other individual winners for the women’s team were sophomore Lauren Horst (100-meter backstroke, 1:19.25), junior Danielle Kern (800-meter freestyle, 11:09.73), sophomore Christina Schreiner (50-meter freestyle, 31.41 seconds), and sophomore Allison Sweigart (100-meter freestyle, 1:05.00).
LVC’s women’s team also swept the two relays. The 200-meter freestyle was won by freshman Lisa Niethamer, Schreiner, sophomore Hope Roaten, and Sweigart in 2:06.12 while Horst, Plimpton, Sweigart, and Niethamer claimed the 200-meter medley in 2:16.70.
The men’s and women’s teams return to action on Wednesday, when they host Albright College and Cabrini College in a double-dual meet starting at 7 p.m.
