PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sophomore goalie Craig Vardy recorded 43 saves, but the Lebanon Valley College ice hockey team came up on the short end of a 3-1 decision to No. 5-ranked Manhattanville College in ECAC West action Friday evening.

Lebanon Valley (4-13, 0-7 ECAC West) played the Valiants to a scoreless draw after the first period, but Manhattanville (15-2, 6-1 ECAC West) broke through in the second stanza when Andrew McShea scored 5:50 into the frame.

The Flying Dutchmen pulled even at the midway point of the second stanza when freshman Eli Facchinei punched in his first collegiate goal. But the Valiants took the lead for good when, with 1:04 left in the period, McShea scored his second goal, this time on a power play.

Justin Rohr scored with 4:27 left in the game for Manhattanville to set the final score.

Jay Chrapala stopped 29 shots to earn the win in goal for the Valiants.

The two teams wrap up the two-game series when Manhattanville hosts Lebanon Valley at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
