ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men’s basketball team used hot shooting and a balanced scoring attack to defeat Moravian College 86-71 in Commonwealth Conference action Wednesday evening at the LVC Gymnasium.

The Flying Dutchmen (7-7, 1-2 CC) shot a season-best 60.8% from the floor – including a red-hot 72.0% mark in the second half – while four players reached double figures in scoring. Lebanon Valley received a team-high 15 points apiece from junior guard Hunter Bretschneider and freshman guard Kyle Enoch. Enoch shot 4-for-6 and had six rebounds and four steals while Bretscheider, who handed out four assists, shot 5-for-8 from three-point range.

Junior forward Dave Kasyan added 12 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for LVC while junior guard Jimmy Curran had 11 points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Dan Hodge finished with nine points in 16 minutes off the bench while senior forward Dan Hogan scored eight points and handed out a game- and career-high five assists.

Moravian (5-9, 0-3 CC) was led by senior forward Zach Zsilavecz, who pumped in a game-high 28 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the field and a 7-for-8 mark at the foul line. Sophomore forward Chris Earley added 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting in 18 minutes off the bench.

The Dutchmen’s 86 points marked their highest offensive output since their 114-79 win over Delaware Valley College on Jan. 8, 2004.

The win was Lebanon Valley’s fifth-straight over Moravian.

The Dutchmen led from start to finish after racing out to a 7-0 lead to open the game. The Greyhounds answered with an 8-3 run to make it 10-8, but that’s as close as they would get. LVC used a 10-2 run, capped by a Bretschneider trey, midway through the opening stanza to push its lead to double digits (29-17) with 7:30 to go. A 6-0 Moravian spurt over a 1:00 span slimmed the deficit to five (32-27) 3:43 before halftime, but the Dutchmen scored the final four points of the half to assume a 36-27 lead at the break.

In the second half Lebanon Valley picked up right where it left off, outscoring the ’Hounds 11-4 to push its advantage to 16 (47-31) with 16:35 left. The Dutchmen’s lead ballooned to 20 (60-40) with 13:02 remaining after a three-pointer from Hodge and Moravian failed to get any closer than 13 the rest of the way.

The Greyhounds shot 46.6% from the floor but made just 26.3% (5-for-19) of their three-point attempts.

Lebanon Valley picks up its schedule on Saturday, when it visits Elizabethtown College at 4 p.m. in another Commonwealth Conference game.
