ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Natalie Goodfellow posted a career- and match-high 26 kills, leading the Lebanon Valley College volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Elizabethtown College in a Commonwealth Conference match Tuesday evening at the LVC Gymnasium.
Lebanon Valley (13-2, 3-0 CC) remained perfect in Commonwealth play while winning for the 10th time in its last 11 outings.
Elizabethtown (12-6, 1-2 CC) was led by sophomore Ashley Whitmarsh, who had 15 kills.
Goodfellow made just six errors on a career-high 66 attempts to hit .303 for the night. Freshman Margaret Prebula added 15 kills and made only two errors on 36 attempts for a .361 hitting performance. Senior Lexi Horstman recorded 12 kills, made only one error on 35 attempts, and hit .314.
Lebanon Valley trailed only once (2-1) in the first game, but never led by more than four points for most of the match. But after holding a 23-21 lead, the Valley outscored the Blue Jays 7-1 to end the match and pick up a 30-22 win.
The first half of the second game was more of the same, with LVC holding a slight edge. But the Dutchmen ended the game on an 11-5 run, turning a 19-16 score into a 30-21 Valley victory.
E-town rallied to win the third game, 30-27. It was the Blue Jays who were in control for most of the way, and they led by as much as seven (23-16) before a 7-1 LVC surge made it 24-23. But the visitors held on down the stretch to make it a 2-1 match.
Lebanon Valley led comfortably throughout the fourth and final game, thanks to an early 6-1 spurt that opened up a seven-point (12-5) advantage. The Dutchmen came away with a 30-20 win.
Senior Cat Roth handed out a match- and season-high 55 assists to go with 10 digs for LVC, while senior Katie Ferree had a match-high four aces and 17 digs. Freshman Erin Yost and sophomore Jill Miller notched 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
Lebanon Valley travels to the Salisbury Tournament on Friday and Saturday. LVC will take on Williams College at 6 p.m. and Stevens Institute of Technology at 8 p.m. on Friday.
