Volleyball Wins Baptist Bible Tournament

photoCLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Lebanon Valley lost just one game in three matches, and the Flying Dutchmen cruised to three straight victories en route to winning the Baptist Bible Tournament on Saturday.

LVC (7-1), which is on four-match winning streak, opened tournament play with 3-0 sweeps of FDU-Florham (30-18, 30-14, 30-24) and College of Saint Elizabeth (30-11, 30-7, 30-14), setting up a tournament championship match against a much-taller Haverford team. Paced by an outstanding defensive effort, Lebanon Valley won 3-1 against the Fords. LVC registered 93 digs in the championship match.

Against FDU-Florham, junior Natalie Goodfellow led the way with 15 kills and three blocks. Senior Lexi Horstman and junior Steph Bedgar added 11 and eight kills, respectively, while senior Cat Roth had 39 assists and 13 digs. Senior Katie Ferree came up with 17 digs and four aces, and freshman Brandi Roth scooped up eight digs. Freshman Jill Miller added three aces.

Horstman and sophomore Jess Kender recorded a team-high seven kills apiece against Saint Elizabeth. Miller threw down five kills while freshman Erin Yost handed out 25 assists. Miller and Brandi Roth also fired up three aces.

Goodfellow had another outstanding performance in the championship match, drilling 22 kills to go with three blocks. Horstman contributed 14 kills while Brandi Roth and Bedgar had nine and eight kills, respectively. Leading the digs department was Ferree with 26 followed by Yost with 17, Cat Roth with 14, and Brandi Roth with 12. Cat Roth recorded 54 assists, three aces, and two blocks while Brandi Roth served up a pair of aces.

Lebanon Valley opens Commonwealth Conference play on Tuesday, when it visits Messiah College at 7 p.m.
