LANCASTER, Pa. – Lindsey Mummert scored with 1:57 left in the first overtime, and Franklin & Marshall edged Lebanon Valley 3-2 in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
Lebanon Valley (3-1) lost its first game of the season while F&M won its fourth straight match to open the season.
The Diplomats got on the scoreboard first, with Brittany Croll scoring the first of her two goals just 4:35 into the game. Lebanon Valley pulled even when sophomore Shauna Enck potted her team-leading fifth goal of the season with 23:32 to go in the opening half.
The Valley took its only lead of the afternoon after junior Claire Behney punched in her second goal of the year 3:33 into the second period. But Croll forced overtime when she struck again, this time with 17:45 remaining in regulation.
Lebanon Valley appeared to have won the game when senior Kym Weed converted a penalty stroke in overtime, but the goal was whistled off as Weed was ruled to have stood even with the ball and not behind it.
Junior Katie Pawlewicz finished with 10 saves for Lebanon Valley while Lindsay Klimik also stopped 10 shots for F&M.
Lebanon Valley plays its Commonwealth Conference opener on Tuesday, when it hosts Elizabethtown at 4:30 p.m.
