Messiah Takes Two From Baseball

GRANTHAM, Pa. –  Messiah swept Lebanon Valley in a Commonwealth Conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons won 16-1 and 9-1.

The losses drop Lebanon Valley to 14-13 and 5-10 in the Commonwealth with six conference games remaining. Messiah, which also won 13-2 at LVC on Friday to sweep the season series, improved to 18-8 and 12-3 in conference play while winning its eighth and ninth games in a row.

The Falcons took control of the opener with a seven-run fourth, turning a 6-1 lead into a 13-1 cushion. Kyle Brobst (5-2) earned the win for Messiah, yielding one run on three hits and two walks over five innings. Senior Craig Denlinger started for the Dutchmen and suffered the loss. Denlinger (1-4) allowed 11 runs (six earned) on five hits and eight walks.

In the nightcap, Messiah went up 5-0 following a five-run second. Nick Lindner made the lead stand up, throwing a two-hit complete game. Lindner (5-0) walked two and struck out six.

Freshman Ben Christopher started and took the loss in the second game for Lebanon Valley. Christopher (1-1) was touched for six runs on nine hits and three walks.

Lebanon Valley returns to action on Tuesday, when it hosts Millersville in a non-conference game starting at 3:30 p.m.
