LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore Amy Batz went 5-for-9 with four RBIs as the Lebanon Valley College softball team swept host Franklin & Marshall 7-2 and 5-3 in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.
Lebanon Valley (7-1), which also received a 4-for-6 effort from sophomore Jenn Parks, has now won its last five games.
In the circle, sophomores Kelly O’Toole and Jenn Roberts recorded another pair of strong outings, with each working a complete-game victory.
Lebanon Valley out-hit Franklin & Marshall (2-8) 26-13 over the twinbill, posting 14 hits in the opener and 12 safeties in Game Two.
In the first game, LVC never trailed after jumping out to a 3-0 lead after an inning and a half of play. The Diplomats cut it to 4-2 after three innings, but the Valley outscored F&M 3-0 the rest of the way as LVC scored at least one run in six of seven innings.
Batz led the way at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Parks, Roberts, and senior Melissa Ulrich ripped two hits apiece, while Ulrich legged out a triple and scored a pair of runs.
O’Toole (2-0) enjoyed an outstanding game pitching, firing up a career-high nine strikeouts. She scattered seven hits and walked two.
The Dips drew first blood in the second game, jumping in front 1-0 in the first inning. But that would prove to be F&M’s only lead of the day, as LVC came back with a four-run third to stay ahead for good. Batz provided a two-run double in the big inning for LVC, while Roberts ripped a sacrifice fly and freshman Lauren Sanford had an RBI-single.
Lebanon Valley capped its scoring in the fourth, when Parks doubled and scored on an O’Toole single.
Parks and sophomore Audrey Benner led the way at the plate for LVC with two hits apiece.
Roberts (4-0), the reigning Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Week, gave up six hits and one walk and struck out three.
Lebanon Valley plays its Commonwealth Conference opener on Thursday, when it visits Widener University in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
