SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior guard Erin Eaby scored a game-high 17 points and senior guard Crystal Gibson posted eight points, nine assists, six rebounds, and three blocks as Lebanon Valley won its third game in a row, beating Susquehanna 72-58 in Commonwealth Conference women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
Lebanon Valley (13-5, 6-3 CC), which also won for the ninth time in its last 11 games, received 13 points and 10 rebounds from senior center Jennifer Northcott. Northcott, who recorded her seventh double-double of the season, is now just nine rebounds shy of becoming the first LVC men’s or women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 points.
Ruth Williamson and Ang Letcavage added 15 points apiece for Susquehanna (9-12, 4-6 CC).
LVC shot 42.4% from the field and was a season-best 6-for-11 (54.5%) from three-point range. Susquehanna was just 30.0% from the floor and 7.1% (1-for-14) from beyond the arc.
The Crusaders led 19-15 midway through the half before LVC used an 8-0 run, powered by six points from Northcott, to take the lead for good. Lebanon Valley led by as much as nine in the opening half and took a 39-32 lead into the locker room.
Susquehanna scored the opening bucket of the second half, but a 7-1 LVC spurt gave the Flying Dutchmen an 11-point lead (46-35) with 17:28 on the clock. Lebanon Valley then turned to the long shot to break the game open. Sophomore guard Allie Butler sparked a 15-6 LVC run with a three-pointer, and freshman guard Donna Geiger nailed a pair of treys during the stretch as the Valley opened up a commanding 20-point lead (63-43) with 10:56 left. The Crusaders were unable to get it under 12 the rest of the way.
Sophomore forward Monica Johnson added 12 points and seven rebounds for LVC while senior forward Tamika Rogers had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Andrea Carlson contributed 11 points for Susquehanna, which held a 54-46 rebounding advantage.
Lebanon Valley returns to Commonwealth Conference action on Wednesday, when it hosts Moravian at 6 p.m. in the first game of a men’s and women’s doubleheader.
