Women’s Hoops Cruises Past Albright, 76-39

READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley blitzed to a 40-11 halftime lead after outscoring Albright 24-3 to start the game and LVC recorded a 76-39 Commonwealth Conference win over the Lions Tuesday evening in women’s basketball action.

Lebanon Valley (11-5, 5-3 CC) had three players reach double figures in scoring and won for the seventh time in its last nine games.

LVC never trailed after opening the game with on an 11-0 run. Albright (4-16, 1-8 CC) missed its first eight shots and didn’t put on a point on the scoreboard until a Meredith Berger free throw with 15:28 on the clock.

The final score was nearly identical to the final outcome of the two teams’ first meeting earlier in the season, when Lebanon Valley won 77-39.

Senior forward Tamika Rogers led the Valley with a game-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go with six rebounds. Senior guard Erin Eaby added 13 points while sophomore forward Monica Johnson had 11 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Crystal Gibson contributed five points, five rebounds, and a game-high six assists. Senior center Jennifer Northcott and junior forward Terri Faust each scored eight points in just 15 minutes.

Staci Waligorski paced Albright with 11 points.

After leading 24-3, LVC continued to pull away and saw its advantage swell to as much as 31 (38-7) with 2:05 left in the opening half. The second half was more Lebanon Valley, and the Flying Dutchmen pushed their lead to as much as 42 late in the game.

Lebanon Valley held the Lions to 28.0% shooting, LVC’s best defensive effort since limiting Albright to 27.5% shooting when the two sides met in November. Albright was also guilty of 25 turnovers.

The Valley plays its first home game in 18 days on Thursday, when it hosts Dickinson College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
