ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men’s and women’s swimming teams combined to set five school records on Saturday, but the University of Scranton won on both sides, as the Royal men picked up a 99-86 win while the Scranton women prevailed 102-83.
Both LVC teams fell to 0-2 with their losses.
The women’s team was led by sophomore Allison Sweigart, who broke LVC records in both the 50-meter free and the 100-meter fly. Her mark of 29.03 seconds in the 50-free bettered her older sister Shanalyn Sweigart’s record of 29.49 set in 2002. In the 100-fly, her 1:13.97 clocking bested a 12-year record of 1:16.88 set by G. Fontana. Sweigart also placed first in the 50-free.
Freshman Annmarie Errico set a school record in the 100-meter breast, touching the wall in 1:23.13 to top Shannon Feather’s previous record of 1:23.72 set in 2001.
Also for the women’s team, junior Amy Miceli qualified for the MASCAC championships in both the 100-meter breast and the 200-meter IM.
For the men’s team, freshman Kevin Carney continued his impressive start, setting a school record while placing first in the 800-meter free. Carney was timed at 9:27.17, as he lowered the previous record of 9:31.17 set by teammate Isaac Greene in 2003.
Greene reset his own school record in 100-meter fly and placed first in both the 100-fly and the 400-meter free. Greene clocked a 1:03.92 in the 100-fly, nearly two seconds better than his previous record of 1:05.76 set in 2003.
Freshman Greg Kauffman placed first and reached a MASCAC-qualifying mark (26.13 seconds) in the 50-meter free while freshman Scott Beesley and sophomore Jared Wilkerson just missed qualifying for MASCACs in the same event.
Both teams return to action next Saturday, when they host Drew University at 11 a.m.
