Ice Hockey Falls in ECAC West Opener, 6-1

HERSHEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley held Manhattanville scoreless in the first period, but the No. 2-ranked Valiants exploded with four second-period goals as the Flying Dutchmen dropped their ECAC West opener by a 6-1 count in the Hersheypark Arena Friday evening.

Manhattanville, the defending ECAC West champion, remained undefeated at 6-0 and 3-0 in the ECAC West while Lebanon Valley fell to 3-3 and 0-1.

Senior goalie Sonny Holding turned aside all 19 Manhattanville shots in the opening stanza before four different Valiants lit the lamp over the next 20 minutes. Two of Manhattanville’s second-period goals came on the power play.

The Valiants pushed their advantage to 5-0 three minutes into the third period before the Dutchmen got on the scoreboard when sophomore Justin Todd converted a power play at the 6:19 mark. Manhattaville set the final score with 2:41 left with their sixth and final goal.

Juniors Chris Mills and B.J. Greaves had one goal and one assist apiece while senior Tyler Resch handed out three assists.

Manhattanville, which entered the game ranked sixth in Division III in penalty-kill percentage (93.9%), successfully killed eight of nine LVC power plays.

Junior Andrew Gallant made 21 saves in goal for the Valiants.

Lebanon Valley continues ECAC West action on Saturday, when it hosts 14th-ranked Utica College at 3 p.m. back at the Hersheypark Arena.
