ANNVILLE, Pa. – Susquehanna University scored two second-half goals and the Crusaders defeated Lebanon Valley 2-0 in a Commonwealth Conference men’s soccer match Thursday afternoon at Herbert Field.

Sophomore Chris Thompson scored what held up as the game-winning goal for Susquehanna (8-7-1, 3-2-1 CC) when he punched in a deflected ball in front of the net just 1:37 into the second half. Sophomore Seth Baughman added an insurance goal in the 84th minute on a breakaway.

Lebanon Valley (6-8-1, 1-4-1 CC) played without its two leading scorers in sophomores Nick Wanyo and Eric Nkurunziza, who were both injured in the team’s 1-0 overtime loss at Widener University on Saturday.

Just two minutes after Thompson’s goal, the Dutchmen had a chance to tie it when senior Matt Rich was awarded a penalty kick. But Susquehanna goalie Austin Kelsey dove low and to his left to block Rich’s shot away from the net.

Kelsey finished with two saves for his fourth shutout of the season. Sophomore John Mentzer stopped three shots for the Dutchmen.

Lebanon Valley will look to keep its slim Commonwealth Conference playoff hopes alive on Saturday when it hosts Albright College at 2 p.m. in its regular season finale.
