ANNVILLE, Pa. – For the second game in a row, junior Steph Marguglio scored the game’s only goal as the 13th-ranked Lebanon Valley College field hockey team defeated Widener University 1-0 in a Commonwealth Conference match-up Thursday afternoon at the LVC Field Hockey Stadium.
Marguglio scored off a pass from sophomore Alyssa Stine with 19:02 left in the opening half to provide Lebanon Valley (13-4, 4-2 CC) with all the scoring it would need. Marguglio also scored the game-winner in the team’s 1-0 win over seventh-ranked William Smith on Saturday.
With the goal, her 17th of the season, Marguglio passed Lora Zimmerman ’01 and moved into third on both LVC’s career points and goals lists. She now has 127 points and 57 goals, one more point and goal than Zimmerman totaled from 1997-2000.
Lebanon Valley out-shot Widener (7-6, 2-4 CC) 25-6.
Senior Kate Heritage made seven saves for the Pioneers while junior Katie Pawlewicz needed to make only one stop for her seventh shutout of the season.
The game was the 100th coached for LVC Head Coach Laurel Martin. Now in her fifth year, Martin has posted a 68-32 career record at the Valley.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Tuesday, when it visits Moravian College for its Commonwealth Conference regular season finale, starting at 4 p.m.
