ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior Lexi Horstman thumped a match-high 16 kills, made no errors, and had five blocks to lead Lebanon Valley to a 3-0 (30-24, 30-17, 30-15) sweep of Susquehanna University in a Commonwealth Conference volleyball match Tuesday evening at the LVC Gymnasium.

After hitting just .125 in the first game, Lebanon Valley (18-4, 4-1 CC) hit .514 in the second game and .545 in Game Three to finish the match with a .346 mark. Susquehanna (13-10, 1-4 CC) hit .111 for the night.

Horstman, who fashioned her fourth errorless match of the season, had 29 attempts and hit .552 for the night, her best hitting performance since going .562 in the team’s season-opening win over SUNY New Paltz.

Three of Horstman’s blocks were solo.

Freshman Ainsley Catagnus led Susquehanna with nine kills.

Neither team led by more than six in an extremely close Game One. Lebanon Valley led just 23-21 late in the game but closed on a 7-3 run.

LVC broke open the second game early. With the score tied 3-3, the Valley went on a 10-2 run to open up an eight-point advantage, and the Crusaders were unable to cut the deficit under six the rest of the way.

Lebanon Valley pulled away early again in the third game, using an 11-2 run to turn a 7-6 deficit into a commanding 17-9 lead. Susquehanna never came closer than seven after that.

Junior Natalie Goodfellow and freshman Margaret Prebula posted 11 kills apiece for LVC while senior Cat Roth handed out a match-high 39 assists. Senior Katie Ferree recorded match-highs in aces (five) and digs (15).

Lebanon Valley returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts Lycoming College and Pitt-Johnstown in a tri-match starting at 10 a.m.
