GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior guard J.D. Byers led all scorers with 26 points and No. 22 Lebanon Valley defeated host Arcadia University 76-63 in non-conference men’s basketball action Monday evening.
Lebanon Valley (8-1), playing for the first time in 23 days following semester break, won its seventh straight game, the team’s longest winning streak since the 1998-99 season.
Arcadia (1-9), which lost its fourth game in a row, was led by Cory Rich and Justin McCuen, who scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Byers shot 7-for-15 from the field and was a perfect 10-for-10 at the foul line as he surpassed the 1,500-point mark for his career. He now has 1,516 points for his career, seventh on Lebanon Valley’s all-time list.
Lebanon Valley held a slim 31-28 lead at halftime before pulling away in the second half. The Flying Dutchmen outscored the Knights 45-35 on 60.9% shooting over the final 20 minutes. LVC shot a season-best 53.1% from the field for the night.
After shooting 42.9% in the opening half, Arcadia was held to 32.3% shooting in the second stanza.
Senior forward Steve Buzinski enjoyed a career night for the Dutchmen, recording his fifth double-double of the season. Buzinski notched a career-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go with 12 rebounds.
Senior center Brad Stigelman and sophomore guard Hunter Bretschneider added 10 points apiece for LVC.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Saturday and Sunday when it hosts the 13th annual Rinso Marquette Invitational. The Dutchmen take on Chestnut Hill in the first round of the tournament on Saturday at 8 p.m.
