BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Stephanie Seaman scored 16 of her game-high 19 points in the second half and Moravian outscored Lebanon Valley 38-27 in the second stanza en route to a 75-59 Commonwealth Conference victory Wednesday evening in Johnston Hall.
Lebanon Valley fell to 7-4 and 1-2 in the Commonwealth Conference with the loss while Moravian improved to 11-2 and 3-0 in conference play.
Sophomore forward Monica Johnson paced LVC with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench while senior center Jennifer Northcott added 14 points and seven rebounds despite playing only 23 minutes due to foul trouble. Senior forward Tamika Rogers posted 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Moravian led 37-32 at the half, and a 7-0 spurt early in the second period gave the hosts a nine-point lead (45-36) with 14:44 left. LVC trailed by seven (47-40) following a reverse layup from Rogers with 12:51 remaining, but a 12-0 Greyhound run, fueled by eight straights points from Seaman, gave Moravian an insurmountable 20-point lead (60-40) with 8:37 left. The Greyhounds’ lead swelled to as much as 23 before the Valley closed the game on an 11-4 run.
Lebanon Valley came out of the gates strong and outscored Moravian 17-9 to start the game, with Northcott and Rogers combining to score 12 of the Valley’s points over the stretch. However, that would turn out to be Lebanon Valley’s largest lead of the night, as Moravian responded with a 9-3 run to pull to within two (20-18). A 9-2 Greyhound surge late in the half, capped by a Katie Rizman fastbreak layup with 4:25 on the clock, gave Moravian its first lead (28-26) since the 19:29 mark. Another 9-2 Moravian run gave the ’Hounds their five-point halftime lead.
Jenny Hackleman added 12 points for Moravian while Kelly Applegate had 11 points.
The Greyhounds held LVC to 32.9% shooting, including a 28.9% mark in the second half. Moravian shot 50.0% in the second half and 42.1% for the game.
Lebanon Valley picks up its schedule on Saturday, when it hosts Susquehanna University at 1 p.m. in another Commonwealth Conference match-up.
