photoBox Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Mike Martin (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) netted the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute and freshman goalkeeper John Mentzer (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) saved all three shots he faced as the Lebanon Valley College men’s soccer team shut out Wilkes University 1-0 in a non-conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Herbert Field.

Martin came off the bench late in the game to score the winner with less than eight minutes remaining.

Mentzer picked up the win, his second shutout of the season, while counterpart Dominick Proctor stopped one shot in the Colonels’ losing effort. Mentzer and Lebanon Valley have yet to concede a goal in 180 minutes of play this season.

The game was largely contested on defense, with both teams combining for just 11 shots. Wilkes was awarded three corner kicks to LVC’s two, while LVC committed 16 fouls, including three yellow cards, to Wilkes’ 12.
