WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Chris Jessen (Newfield, N.J./Woodstown) won 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to give Lebanon Valley an insurmountable 5-3 lead and the Flying Dutchmen edged Lycoming College 5-4 in non-conference women's tennis action Thursday afternoon.
The match marked the season opener for both teams.
Lycoming assumed a 2-1 lead after winning two of three doubles matches before LVC rallied to take four of the six singles contests.
Juniors Angie Petiak (Wapwallopen, Pa./Berwick) and Jenny Larson (Kelso, Wash./Kelso) captured the Valley's lone doubles victory, prevailing 8-1 at the third flight.
In singles action, freshman Leslie Sabas (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) made the most of her first collegiate match, winning 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 1 position. Junior Amanda Lubold (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) came away with a 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles while Jessen and sophomore Angela Esh (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) rounded out LVC's singles winners. Esh scored a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
Lebanon Valley opens its Commonwealth Conference schedule when it hosts Juniata College at noon on Saturday.
