ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women's tennis team defeated Albright College 7-2 in a Commonwealth Conference match Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, Lebanon Valley improved to 4-2 and 2-2 in the Commonwealth. Albright fell to 2-3 and 0-3 in conference play.
The Flying Dutchmen started the match by winning two of three doubles contests. Juniors Angie Petiak (Wapwallopen, Pa./Berwick) and Jenny Larson (Kelso, Wash./Kelso) won 9-8 (11-9) at No. 2 doubles, as the pair stayed unbeaten at 5-0. Junior Sophia Kwon (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and freshman Leslie Sabas (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) added an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Sabas and Larson were double winners, as each player also picked up a singles victory. Sabas earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 1 position while Larson didn't lose a game with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at the third slot. Senior Lindsey Noll (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) registered a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles while junior Amanda Lubold (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) improved to 5-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at fourth singles. Senior Chris Jessen (Newfield, N.J./Woodstown) added a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles while pushing her record to 4-2.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Sunday, when it visits Franklin & Marshall College at 1 p.m. in another non-conference match.
