Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Steph Marguglio (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) scored a career-high four goals, as the Lebanon Valley College field hockey team set a school record with an 11-1 win over Arcadia University Saturday afternoon in a non-conference affair at the LVC Field Hockey Stadium.
LVC (3-2) won for the first time in its last three games while Arcadia (1-3) dropped its third game in a row.
Lebanon Valley’s 11 goals marked a new single-game school record. The previous record of 10 had been set in 2000 against Wilkes and in 1996 against Haverford.
The Flying Dutchmen wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, finding the back of the cage twice over the opening 5:09. Senior Lindsey McCormick (Duncannon, Pa./Susqueniata) put the Valley on the scoreboard with a goal just 1:43 into the contest, then sophomore Claire Behney (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) made it 2-0 three minutes later.
Freshman Alyssa Stine (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) and junior Missy Shultz (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) added one goal apiece over the final 14:48 of the half as the Valley took a 4-0 lead into the intermission.
Marguglio began heating up in the second stanza, scoring four of the team’s next five goals to give the Valley a 9-1 lead with 12:51 left. Marguglio has now scored a team-high nine goals over the team’s first five games. Sandwiched around Marguglio’s four strikes was another goal from Shultz, her fifth of the season.
Freshman Mimi Sullivan (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) scored her first collegiate goal with 8:34 left to make it 10-1, and senior Erin Behney (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) potted the Valley’s record-breaking tally with 2:53 showing on the clock.
Between the pipes, sophomore Abbey Gockley (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) started the game and recorded one save while playing the opening half. Sophomore Katie Pawlewicz (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) worked the second half and stopped five shots.
Lebanon Valley out-shot Arcadia 27-7.
The Dutchmen return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Ursinus for another non-conference match. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
