Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Freshmen Nick Wanyo (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Eric Nkurunziza (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) each scored their first collegiate goal and classmate John Mentzer (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) saved all six shots he faced as the Lebanon Valley College men’s soccer team blanked King’s College 2-0 in a non-conference affair Wednesday afternoon at Herbert Field.
The match was the season opener for both teams.
In the 38th minute, Wanyo took a feed from sophomore Adam Burns (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) at midfield and broke free for a breakway. He deposited the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Flying Dutchmen all the scoring they would need.
Nkurunziza added an insurance goal for the Valley in the 72nd minute, picking up a loose ball at the top of the box and drilling a shot off the fingertips of King’s goalie Dan Upton and into the upper left corner of the goal.
Upton stopped two shots in a losing effort for the Monarchs.
The Dutchmen out-shot King’s 15-12. Both teams were awarded six corner kicks.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Wilkes University at 2 p.m. in another non-conference test.
