Baseball Falls to Albright in Slugfest, 11-10

READING, Pa. – Kerry Marshall hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to lead Albright to an 11-10 victory over Lebanon Valley in Commonwealth Conference baseball action Friday afternoon at Kelchner Field.

The offense-dominated game featured a combined 21 hits by the two teams, included seven home runs.

With the loss, Lebanon Valley (14-19, 9-10 CC) fell into sixth place in the conference standings and will need to sweep Albright in tomorrow’s doubleheader at McGill Park to have a chance to make the upcoming Commonwealth playoffs.

Albright (15-17, 10-9 CC), which moved into a tie with Elizabethtown for fourth in the conference, had to rally twice to win the game. Lebanon Valley led 4-1 and 9-7 and tied the game 10-10 in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Scott Montgomery (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) off Albright reliever David Ciccone Jr. But Marshall gave the Lions the win with his solo shot off LVC reliever Matthew Sanders (Lebanon, Pa./Annville-Cleona).

Sophomore Ryan Dalton (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) started on the mound for LVC and came away with a no-decision. In seven innings, he allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and six walks. He struck out two. Sanders (3-3) yielded four runs on two hits and two walks to go with one strikeout.

Ciccone Jr. (2-1) came away with the win for the Lions. He allowed one run in 1 2/3 innings. Starter Dan Jarrett was roughed up for nine runs (six earned) on 12 hits and one walk. He struck out four.

Junior Craig Denlinger (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) went 1-for-4 with three RBIs while clouting his team-leading seventh home run for LVC. He also extended his season-long hitting streak to 10.

Senior Jeff Grieger (Rieglesville, Pa./Wilson), junior Ron Weaver (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) and sophomore Alex Morrison (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) all ripped two hits apiece for LVC, which out-hit Albright 12-9. Grieger singled and doubled to push his hitting streak to 10.

Morrison also hit his first collegiate home run, while senior Casey Long (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) smacked his third long ball of the year.

Lebanon Valley and Albright will meet in a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday.
