ANNVILLE, Pa. – Fueled by a six-run second inning, Elizabethtown College handed Lebanon Valley a 10-3 loss in Commonwealth Conference baseball action Friday afternoon at McGill Park.
Junior Drew Kelley scattered 11 hits in a complete game victory for the Blue Jays (16-14, 9-7 CC). Kelley (5-3) walked one and struck out two.
Junior Robert Nordall (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) started on the mound for Lebanon Valley (12-16, 8-8 CC) and was charged with the loss. Nordall (2-2) worked eight innings and yielded seven runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks. He struck out four.
The Flying Dutchmen were led by freshman Jared Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra), who went 3-for-4 at the plate. Junior Ron Weaver (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) added a pair of hits for the Valley.
Sophomore Jon Kalejta, freshman Mike Donahue and freshman Dean Whetham had two hits apiece for Etown, while Kalejta scored three runs.
The Blue Jays sent 10 batters to the plate in the second inning and pushed across six runs on four hits and one error. Etown added another run in the fourth to push its lead to 7-0.
Lebanon Valley got on the scoreboard in the fifth on a hit batsman, a wild pitch and two errors.
Elizabethtown padded their lead with three runs in the top of the ninth before LVC scored a pair in the bottom of the frame to set the final score.
LVC left 10 runners on base.
The Dutchmen and Blue Jays meet again on Saturday, when they conclude their season series with a doubleheader at Elizabethtown starting at noon.
