ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men's tennis team won its seventh straight match to open the season, defeating Eastern University 5-1 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
LVC swept the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point, then won four of five singles matches that were played to completion. The final match of the day, No. 2 singles, was called due to rain, ending the match.
Freshman Erik Vargo (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic), senior Andy Platt (York, Pa./York Suburban) and junior Zach Cook (Schaefferstown, Pa./ELCO) all stayed undefeated with singles victories. Vargo captured a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 while Platt won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 as each player improved to 7-0. Cook prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at sixth singles and is now 6-0.
Freshman Stuart Hartman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) also won at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-0) to push his record to 6-1 on the season.
In doubles play, Hartman and junior Ryan Wendell (Shiloh, N.J./Cumberland Regional) also stayed perfect on the season with an 8-5 win at No. 1 to extend their record to 7-0. Platt and Vargo captured an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles to improve to 6-1 while senior Chris Keeney (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and freshman Saming Rattanavongkoth (South Elgin, Ill./Elgin) won 8-1 at third doubles.
The Flying Dutchmen put their perfect record on the line on Wednesday when they host Juniata College at 3:30 p.m.
