ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men’s tennis team defeated Elizabethtown College 5-2 Sunday afternoon in the Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams.

LVC (2-0, 1-0 CC) picked up the doubles point by winning all three matches, then grabbed victories at third through sixth singles to come away with the victory.

In doubles action, junior Ryan Wendell (Shiloh, N.J./Cumberland Regional) and freshman Stuart Hartman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) teamed up for an 8-5 win at the No. 1 slot. Freshman Erik Vargo (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) and senior Andy Platt (York, Pa./York Suburban) came away with an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles while senior Chris Keeney (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and freshman Saming Rattanavongkoth (South Elgin, Ill./Elgin) scored an 8-2 win at third doubles.

Singles winners included Vargo (No. 3, 6-0, 6-1), Platt (No. 4, 6-3, 6-2), Hartman (No. 5, 6-4, 6-2) and junior Zach Cook (Schaefferstown, Pa./ELCO) (No. 6, 6-1, 6-2).

Lebanon Valley returns to action on Monday when it visits Ursinus College at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference match.
