ANNVILLE, Pa.  – The Lebanon Valley College men's tennis team was victorious in its season opener, as the Flying Dutchmen defeated York College (Pa.) 6-1 Thursday afternoon in the Arnold Sports Center.

York fell to 4-4 and lost its third straight match.

The Dutchmen opened the afternoon by sweeping the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Freshman Stuart Hartman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and junior Ryan Wendell (Shiloh, N.J./Cumberland Regional) teamed up for an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 spot while senior Andy Platt (York, Pa./York Suburban) captured an 8-1 win at second doubles. Senior Chris Keeney (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and freshman Saming Rattanavongkoth (South Elgin, Ill./Elgin) completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory at third doubles.

In singles action, Wendell won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 while Vargo came away with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 3. Other singles winners included Platt (No. 4, 7-6, 6-0), Hartman (No. 5, 6-0, 7-6) and junior Zach Cook (Schaefferstown, Pa./ELCO) (No. 6, 6-1, 6-4).

Lebanon Valley is scheduled to open its Commonwealth Conference schedule on Sunday at Elizabethtown College starting at noon.
