ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women’s swimming team picked up its first two victories of the season on Saturday afternoon at the LVC Swimming Pool.
LVC (2-4) defeated Middle Atlantic Conference foe King’s College 76-18 and knocked off Cabrini College in a non-conference affair, 68-27.
Lebanon Valley’s men’s team was also in action and lost a tough 104-100 decision to King’s to drop to 1-3 on the season.
On the women’s side, the Valley won 10 of 11 events against King’s to go with nine victories against Cabrini.
In the Cabrini meet, sophomore Danielle Kern (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and junior Jenn Kush (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) led the way with two wins apiece. Kern captured the 800-free (11:17.66) and 400-free (5:29.24) while Kush came out on top in the 50-free (30.29) and the 100-back (1:12.63). Other winners included sophomore Ann Heckman (Mercerburg, Pa./James Buchanan) (200-free, 2:37.53), senior Sam Meglino (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) (100-fly, 1:20.36), and sophomore Hannah Plimpton (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) (100-breast, 1:25.86).
In addition, the women’s 200-medley relay team of freshman Aimee Heckman (Mercerburg, Pa./James Buchanan), Plimpton, Tiedeken, and sophomore Lynn Donmoyer (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) won in 2:22.60, while the 200-free relay squad of Donmoyer, Tiedeken, Meglino, and Kush touched the wall first in 2:05.66.
All of the aforementioned women’s swimmers also won against King’s, as did senior Joanna Tiedeken (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) in the 100-free (1:11.88).
Donymoyer also qualified for the MAC Championships with a 30.92 clocking in the 50-free.
Highlighting the women’s meet was the return of sophomore Janice Goddard (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro), who made her first appearance since surviving a fatal automobile accident nearly a year ago to the day. Goddard swam in the 200-IM to a thunderous round of applause.
The men’s team was led by junior Isaac Greene (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and freshman Daniel Wolford (Lebanon, Pa./home-schooled), who won two events apiece. Greene was victorious in the 200-IM (2:27.64) and the 400-free (4:39.44) while Wolford won the 200-free (2:17.85) and the 100-free (1:00.93). Greene also qualified for the MAC Championships with a time of 26.57 in the 50-free.
In addition, sophomore Matt Woods (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) captured the 100-fly in 1:07.05.
In relay action, the men’s 200-free team of freshman Jared Wilkerson (Wantage, N.J./High Point), junior Chris Metzger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), freshman Kevin Uhland (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional), and junior Cory Hackman (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) won in a time of 1:51.62.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Tuesday, when both teams host Elizabethtown College at 6 p.m.
