ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Steph Marguglio (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) scored two goals and handed out one assist, and freshman Alyssa Stine (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) scored one goal and distributed three assists as No. 14 Lebanon Valley earned a 5-0 Homecoming win over DeSales University in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at the LVC Field Hockey Stadium.
Lebanon Valley (10-4) has now won seven of its last eight games. DeSales (5-5), competing in its first season as a varsity program, lost for just the second time in its last seven outings.
Stine’s three assists pushed her season total to 13, as she broke the single-season school record. The former record of 10 was held by Beth Light ’01 (2000) and Erin Sanno ’98 (1997).
Marguglio provided LVC with all the offense it would need when she converted a pass from Stine in the 11th minute. Three and a half minutes later, sophomore Claire Behney (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) accepted a feed from junior Missy Shultz (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) and potted her third goal of the season to make it 2-0.
Stine and freshman Mimi Sullivan (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) notched a pair of goals just over three minutes apart late in the second half to give LVC a commanding 4-0 halftime advantage. Stine took a pass from Marguglio and drilled in her seventh goal of the season in the 29th minute, and Sullivan followed up with her seventh goal of the season off a Stine assist.
Marguglio closed the scoring in the 42nd minute, when she slammed in her team-leading 17th goal of the year, with Stine handing out her third assist of the afternoon.
Sophomore Katie Pawlewicz (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) needed to make only one save to pick up the shutout for LVC. Senior Shavonne Hannahoe stopped five shots for DeSales.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Wednesday, when it visits Elizabethtown at 4 p.m. in a Commonwealth Conference match-up.
