ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Jess Guntz (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) fired up a match-high 21 kills, leading the Lebanon Valley College volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Widener University Wednesday evening at the LVC Gymnasium.
Lebanon Valley (16-4, 2-2 CC) won its fifth straight match. Widener dropped to 13-11 and 3-1 in the Commonwealth.
Widener captured the first game 30-25, but LVC rallied to win the final three, 30-19, 30-21, and 30-22.
Guntz made just one error on 41 attempts for an outstanding .488 hitting night.
Sophomore Natalie Goodfellow (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) added 17 kills while freshman Ashley Watson (Columbia Cross Roads, Pa./Troy) and senior Amanda Bahn (York, Pa./Spring Grove) added 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Bahn also had 16 digs while junior Katie Ferree (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) posted 22 digs. Freshman Jill Miller (New Oxford, Pa./Delone Catholic) also had a solid defensive match, recording 12 digs.
Junior setter Cat Roth (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) added 60 assists and 12 digs.
Lebanon Valley will take a break from its intercollegiate schedule when it participates in an alumni match on Saturday at 10 a.m. back at the LVC Gymnasium as part of Homecoming/Family Weekend festivities and the volleyball team's celebration of its 20th year of competition.
