ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie against Eastern University in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at Herbert Field in the Flying Dutchmen's regular season home finale.
Lebanon Valley saw its record move to 9-4-3. Eastern is now 9-5-1.
After a scoreless first half, the Dutchmen got on the scoreboard in the 54th minute when freshman Nick Wanyo (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) took a feed from senior Nick Buckwalter (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley) and deposited his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The Eagles scored their lone goal in the 68th minute, as junior Daniel Carvalho drilled a penalty kick into the bottom left corner of the net for his second tally of the year.
Freshman John Mentzer (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) saved eight shots for LVC while junior Brandon Ziegler made three saves for Eastern before leaving the game with an injury midway through the first overtime.
Eastern out-shot Lebanon Valley 16-6 in regulation and 4-1 over the two overtime sessions.
The Dutchmen, who have qualified for the Commonwealth Conference playoffs, conclude their regular season when they visit Albright College in a conference affair at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Lebanon Valley will compete in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 2 against an opponent to be determined.
