BETHLEHM, Pa. – Senior Brian Sapienza (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) scored the game’s only goal, and the Lebanon Valley College men’s soccer team toppled Moravian College 1-0 in Commonwealth Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Lebanon Valley, ranked sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic region poll, is now 7-1-1 and 2-0-1 in the Commonwealth while Moravian slipped to 5-4-1 and 1-2-0 in conference play.
Sapienza broke open a scoreless tie in the 51st minute when he punched in a loose ball inside the box for his second goal of the season and his first game-winner of the year.
Moravian out-shot LVC 10-9, but freshman John Mentzer (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) stopped all three shots on goal to pick up his fourth shutout of the season and his second in the team’s last three games.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Wednesday, when it visits No. 9 Messiah College in a big Commonwealth Conference match starting at 7 p.m.
