Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made a career-high 18 saves, and Lebanon Valley held off a 31-shot barrage from the University of Scranton in a 2-2 tie in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Herbert Field.
Lebanon Valley is now 6-3-2 on the season while Scranton is 6-6-1.
Conrad's 18 saves were just one shy of the Lebanon Valley single-game record set by Suzanne Becker '02 in 1999.
Senior Ilyse Resnick (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) spotted LVC a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals over the opening 38 minutes. She took a feed from sophomore Keri Foster (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and deposited a shot from the top of the box in the 10th minute to put the Flying Dutchmen on the scoreboard. Then in the 38th minute, Resnick broke free on a breakaway, and Scranton goalie Jackie Colley came out to meet her from 10 yards out. Resnick pushed the ball through Colley for her team-leading eighth goal of the season as LVC took a two-goal advantage.
Scranton cut the lead in half just over two minutes later when sophomore Jessica Beha scored off an assist from classmate Angela Martin for her third goal of the year. The Royals pulled even in the 72nd minute when senior Kelly Klingman converted a breakaway for her second tally of the season.
After out-shooting LVC 27-5 in regulation, Scranton appeared to have had the game won in the first overtime when a Royal shot ricocheted downward off the corner of the left post and the crossbar. But Conrad scooped up the loose ball inside the goalmouth to keep LVC alive.
Lebanon Valley threatened to win it in the closing minutes of the second overtime, when it fired off a succession of three shots. Freshman Kristen Hoover (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) ripped a shot from the right wing, and Scranton keeper Kim McCormick made a diving save to deflect the ball to her right. Sophomore Jenna Kane (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) rebounded the ball at an open net, but a Scranton defender raced in to boot it away. Resnick chased down the loose ball and fired off another shot, but had it deflected by another Royal defender.
Colley made two saves while allowing both LVC goals in 74:05 of action. McCormick stopped one shot and blanked the Valley over the final 35:55.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Thursday, when it hosts Penn State-Altoona in another non-conference outing beginning at 4 p.m.
