WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – For the second game in a row, freshman Tyler Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) scored the game-winning goal as Lebanon Valley defeated Wilkes University 2-1 in double overtime Saturday afternoon in MAC non-conference men’s soccer action at Ralston Field.
Frantz punched in the game-winner in the 102nd minute to break a 1-1 tie and give LVC (2-0-0) its second win in a row. Frantz also scored the game’s only goal in the team’s 1-0 win over King’s College on Wednesday.
Junior Scott Montgomery (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) assisted on both of LVC’s goals. He also set up sophomore Matt Sourbeer's (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin)11th-minute goal that put the Flying Dutchmen on top 1-0.
The Colonels (0-4-0), who lost their fourth straight match to open the season, pulled even early in the second half but were unable to sneak another shot past senior goalie Christian Koch (Hershey, Pa./Hershey), who registered a season-high 13 saves to pick up the win.
Wilkes held a slight 18-16 edge in shots.
Lebanon Valley plays its home opener on Tuesday when it takes on Dickinson College at 4 p.m. at Herbert Field.
