WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Freshman Tyler Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) scored the game’s only goal and senior Christian Koch (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) earned a shutout as the Lebanon Valley College men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory at King’s College in a MAC non-conference match-up Wednesday afternoon.
Frantz’s goal, the first of his collegiate career, was set by junior Fran Pitonyak (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost) in the first half.
Koch came up with four saves, none of which was bigger than his spectacular stop on a penalty kick in the closing minutes of the opening stanza. With 1:48 remaining in the half, Koch made a diving save on low shot to his right to help preserve his 11th career shutout.
Lebanon Valley (1-1-0) and King’s (1-2-0) each took 15 shots on goal. The Monarchs held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday at noon when they take on Wilkes University in another MAC non-conference match.
