Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Erin Behney (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) scored the game-winning goal in the 46th minute and freshman Katie Pawlewicz (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) posted her first full collegiate shutout as the No. 15 Lebanon Valley College field hockey team defeated Widener University 1-0 in the Flying Dutchmen’s Commonwealth Conference opener Thursday afternoon at the LVC Field Hockey Stadium.
LVC bumped its record to 5-2 with the win while Widener dropped to 3-2 and 1-1 in the Commonwealth.
Behney, who also scored twice in Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Arcadia, provided the Valley all the scoring it would need when she took a pass from senior Jen Selin (Pickerington, Ohio/Fallston) on a breakaway and slipped in a shot from the left side of the circle.
Pawlewicz saved 10 Widener shots, including seven in the second half, to improve to 4-1 on the season. She now has 1.5 shutouts to her credit after playing the second half of Wednesday’s shutout at Arcadia.
Sophomore Katie Heritage also came up with 10 saves for Widener.
LVC out-shot the Pioneers 14-11. Each team was awarded 10 penalty corners.
Lebanon Valley takes a five-day rest before returning home for a non-conference match against Dickinson College on Wednesday.
