Box Score
LANCASTER, Pa. – Freshman Steph Marguglio (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) scored her second collegiate goal, but it wasn’t enough as the fourth-ranked Lebanon Valley College field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision at Franklin & Marshall College in non-conference action Thursday evening.
The loss was the first of the season for the Flying Dutchmen, who dropped to 2-1. The Diplomats improved to 2-1.
Marguglio’s unassisted tally with 14:59 to play in the first half tied the match at 1-1, but F&M’s Brenna Dolphin scored what held up as the game-winning goal just over four minutes later.
Stacy Swymelar gave the Dips a 1-0 lead when she scored 7:56 into the game.
Freshman Abbey Gockley (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) played the opening half in goal for LVC and suffered the loss. Gockley stopped five shots while classmate Katie Pawlewicz (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) shut out F&M in the second half while making four saves. Michelle Altman saved eight shots in a winning effort for the Diplomats.
Lebanon Valley held a slim edge in both shots (18-17) and corners (9-8).
The Valley returns to action on Saturday when the team visits Swarthmore College for a non-conference match starting at 1 p.m.
