CHESTER, Pa. – Lebanon Valley erupted for 28 hits and took advantage of eight Widener errors as the Flying Dutchmen rolled over the Pioneers, 31-11, in Commonwealth Conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.
LVC (11-6, 7-4 CC) scored at least one run in every inning but one and eight of the nine starting position players rapped out at least two hits.
Senior Tim Rink (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock) enjoyed an unbelievable game for the Dutchmen, as he went 6-for-7 with 10 RBIs, five runs and two home runs.
Lebanon Valley had three other players go 3-for-5 on the afternoon. Senior Joe Zielke (Media, Pa./Penncrest) was 3-for-8 with three doubles while junior Chris Hotchkiss (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly), sophomore Scott Montgomery (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) and senior Mark Schauren (Columbia, Pa./Columbia) each hit 3-for-5.
Freshman Ryan Dalton (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) started on the hill for LVC and picked up the win. In five innings of work, Dalton (2-2) allowed four runs on three hits and struck out four while walking none.
The Dutchmen led 3-2 at the end of the first inning before adding 11 runs over the next two frames to push their advantage to 14-3. LVC piled on 17 more runs over the final six innings.
The Valley returns to Commonwealth play on Friday when the Dutchmen host Juniata College at 1 p.m.
