ANNVILLE, Pa. – With the match tied 3-3, senior Ryan Arnold (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) won a 7-4 tiebreaker to complete a 6-2, 7-6 victory at No. 2 singles and Lebanon Valley defeated Albright 4-3 in Commonwealth Conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the LVC Tennis Courts.
Lebanon Valley (9-4, 3-1 CC) won for the eighth time in its last nine matches and handed Albright (6-2, 4-1 CC) its first conference loss of the season.
The Flying Dutchmen opened the match by winning the doubles point after capturing the second and third slots. Albright battled back with wins at third, fourth and sixth singles before Arnold's match-winner.
Arnold also picked up a win at No. 2 doubles with junior Andy Platt (York, Pa./York Suburban), as the pair won 8-4. The tandem of junior Zach Jarrett (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and senior Brock Hoover (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) provided LVC with its other doubles victory, an 8-1 triumph at third doubles.
Senior Chris Hileman (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles to improve to 9-3 while winning for the seventh time in his last eight matches. He also closed to within two wins of Josh Shellenberger's '99 career singles record of 69.
Junior Chris Keeney (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles to stay undefeated at 8-0 this season.
Hoover dropped a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 decision at fourth singles and lost for the first time in eight matches this year.
Lebanon Valley plays its third Commonwealth match in as many days when the team hosts Elizabethtown College at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
