READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College softball team won 4-2 in the opener and 16-7 in a dark-shortened nightcap of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Albright College Thursday afternoon.
The victories gave LVC (6-7, 2-2 CC) its first doubleheader sweep of the season.
Albright fell to 7-8 and 0-3.
In the first game, junior Kristen Crouse (Columbia, Pa./Columbia) clouted a two-run homer, LVC's first longball of the season, in the top of the first inning to spark the Flying Dutchmen. Freshman Alisa Albers (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) earned the win on the mound and improved to 2-0 on the season.
Junior Jess Cooney (Rockledge, Pa./Abington) (4-2) pitched LVC to victory in the nightcap as the Valley set a season high for runs scored. The team's 16 runs marked LVC's best offensive output since the Dutchmen's 21-1 rout of Randolph Macon in the Valley's 2002 season opener.
The game was called after six innings due to the eight-run rule.
Lebanon Valley returns to the diamond on Saturday when the team visits Susquehanna University at 1 p.m. in another Commonwealth doubleheader.
