SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley won all but two sets in singles and earned the doubles point by winning all three pro sets as the Flying Dutchmen cruised to a 7-0 win over Susquehanna University Saturday afternoon in the Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams.
Lebanon Valley (3-3, 1-0 CC) won its second match in a row and improved to 7-0 in its last seven regular season Commonwealth matches dating back to last season. The match was also the season opener for Susquehanna (0-1, 0-1 CC).
Senior Chris Hileman (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) captured a three-set (3-6, 6-3, 6-1) victory at No. 1 singles and teamed up with sophomore Ryan Wendell (Shiloh, N.J./Cumberland) for an 8-6 win at first doubles. Hileman's two wins gave him 110 for his career, bringing him to within five of tying Josh Shellenberger '99 for the LVC record.
Wendell, senior Ryan Arnold (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), senior Brock Hoover (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) and junior Chris Keeney (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) also earned a pair of victories apiece. Arnold won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles then paired up with junior Andy Platt (York, Pa./York Suburban) for a 9-7 win at second doubles. Hoover recorded a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 win at fourth singles while Keeney copped a 6-3, 7-5 win at fifth singles. Hoover and Keeney joined forces for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Junior Zach Jarrett (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) added a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
LVC returns to action on Tuesday when the Dutchmen host King's College in a MAC non-conference match starting at 3:30 p.m.
