ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior forward Stephanie Tighe (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored a game-high 18 points, leading the Lebanon Valley College women’s basketball team to a 65-44 MAC non-conference win over Wilkes University Monday evening in Lynch Gymnasium.
Lebanon Valley (17-3) won its sixth game in a row and its sixth consecutive game at home. Wilkes (12-9) lost for the fifth time in its last six games.
Senior center Whitney Bull led Wilkes with eight points, a game-high 13 rebounds and a game-high seven steals. Sophomore guard Danielle Kresock added a team-high nine points while sophomore forward Andrea DeMaranville contributed eight points.
Sophomore guard Erin Eaby (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) tossed in 11 points for LVC. Freshman forward Nicole Dixon (Randallstown, Md./Woodlawn) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while sophomore guard Crystal Gibson (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) handed out a game-high five assists.
LVC continued to click offensively, shooting 48.3% from the floor after setting the team record (56.9%) for field goal percentage two days earlier. The Colonels connected on just 29.5% of their shots.
Both teams struggled to hold onto the ball. Wilkes turned it over 29 times while LVC committed 24 fumbles.
Lebanon Valley out-rebounded the Colonels 38-29.
For the second game in a row, the Valley led the game from start to finish. Tighe got LVC rolling early, scoring six points in the first 3:26 as the Valley jumped to a 10-2 lead. Wilkes trimmed the gap to four (12-8) before a decisive 13-1 LVC run put Lebanon Valley up 16 (25-9) with 4:52 remaining in the opening half. LVC took a 30-18 lead into the locker room with Tighe leading all scorers with 14 points. Bull collected 11 first-half rebounds.
Wilkes fell behind by 15 early in the second half before a 6-0 surge pulled the Colonels to within nine (36-27). But sophomore center Jennifer Northcott (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) canned a jumper with 15:09 left to put LVC on top by 11 and the Valley would lead by double digits the rest of the way. Lebanon Valley led by as much as 24 in the game’s closing minutes.
Lebanon Valley returns to Commonwealth Conference action on Wednesday when it hosts Albright College during Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
