Box Score
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore center Jennifer Northcott (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) posted 13 points, a game-high 18 rebounds and a season-high six blocked shots to lead the Lebanon Valley College women's basketball team to a 60-54 Commonwealth Conference victory at Moravian College.
LVC (14-3, 6-2 CC) entered the game tied with Moravian (13-5, 5-3 CC) for second place in the Commonwealth standings. The win, LVC's seventh in its last eight games, moved the Valley into sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the conference and avenged a 98-94 loss at home to Moravian earlier this season.
Northcott recorded her sixth double-double of the season and her second in a row. She fell just one block short of tying her own single-game school record.
Kim Hughes and Sarah Onkotz scored a team-high 11 points apiece to lead Moravian.
Lebanon Valley held Moravian to a paltry 21.7% shooting from the field. The Valley hit on 35.6% from the floor despite missing all nine of its three-point attempts.
Sophomore guard Crystal Gibson (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) scored a game-high 14 points and tied a game-high with four steals for LVC while senior forward Stephanie Tighe (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added 11 points. Tighe also eclipsed the 1,500-point mark for her career and brought her current total to 1,509. Senior forward Christine Bigler (Columbia, Pa./Columbia Borough) contributed 10 rebounds and four steals, both season-highs.
Moravian surged to a 10-2 lead to open the game with Onkotz scoring the Greyhounds' first eight points. But LVC reeled off a 15-0 run over a 6:32 span to open up a 17-10 lead with 8:01 left in the first half.
LVC led 29-24 at the half but Moravian scored the first five points of the second stanza to tie the game at 29. The Greyhounds took their first lead since the 11:47 mark of the first half when Kim Hughes connected from three-point range, putting the 'Hounds on top 42-41 with 7:54 left. However, Tighe hit a pair of free throws 17 seconds later to give LVC the lead for good.
The Greyhounds pulled to within one (55-54) with 2:09 to go following a lay-up by Hughes. But LVC shut out Moravian the rest of the way and sophomore guard Carrie Lathrop (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) sealed the victory, scoring the team's final four points. She knocked down a jumper with 29 seconds left and canned two free throws with five seconds to go.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Tuesday when it visits Susquehanna University in another Commonwealth Conference match-up starting at 7 p.m.
