ANNVILLE, Pa. – Senior Kim McDonald (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute and second-seeded Lebanon Valley College defeated third-seeded Moravian College 1-0 in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals Tuesday evening at Herbert Field.
LVC (11-2-4) will now advance to the Commonwealth Conference championship on Saturday. It will mark the second time in three years that the team has appeared in the conference championship. The Valley met Messiah College in the 2001 championship and lost 1-0 in overtime.
The Flying Dutchmen will face the winner of the other semifinal between top-seeded Messiah and fourth-seeded Susquehanna University. The game will be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Racing down the left flank, McDonald took a perfect cross from senior Katie Altemose (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and deposited a left-footer just inside the left post for her sixth goal of the season.
The goal was the 34th of McDonald's career, as she moved one ahead of Altemose for the all-time lead in team history. Also Lebanon Valley's career points leader, McDonald upper her career total to 93.
Sophomore keeper Jess Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made two saves in net en route to her sixth shutout of the season.
Junior Jill Vaccaro stopped three shots in a losing effort for Moravian.
