Volleyball Finishes Second at Eastern Tournament

ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College volleyball team closed out its regular season with a strong second-place showing at the Eastern Tournament Saturday. With its 2-1 performance, the Valley finished the season at 20-14 overall, the third year in a row the team finished with over 20 wins.

Junior Amanda Bahn (York, Pa./Spring Grove) became just the second player in program history to break the 1,000 kill mark for her career during the team's 3-0 win over Muhlenberg College. Natalie Baruka '97, Lebanon Valley's all-time kills leader with 1,285, is the only other player to do so at the Valley.

In addition, two Dutchmen players, sophomore Lexi Horstman (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and senior Sherri Pursel (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern), earned all-tournament honors.

The Flying Dutchmen dropped the first game to host Eastern, 3-0 (27-30, 26-30, 20-30).  Hostman had a team-high 12 kills, while Bahn pitched in with 11 of her own. Sophomore Cat Roth (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) led the team with 34 assists and 14 digs.

Bahn again led the way offensively against Muhlenberg, tallying 10 kills and three aces.  Roth added 40 assists, 10 digs and four aces in the 3-0 (30-22, 30-23, 30-23) win, while sophomore Katie Ferree (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) produced 10 digs.

LVC cruised against Richard Stockton, winning 3-0 (30-20, 30-21, 30-21). Pursel tallied 10 digs, 10 kills, and four aces in the win to secure a second place finish for the Dutchmen.  Bahn led the team with 15 kills while Roth added eight kills and 37 assists.

Second-seeded Lebanon Valley returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts third-seeded Moravian Moravian College at 7 p.m. in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs.  The match will be the first event ever to be held in the new LVC Gymnasium and the first-ever home playoff game in team history.
